Richard Danford’s career spans over 45 years with service at the Jacksonville Urban League, the Jacksonville FL Mayor’s Office, Edward Waters College, Thomas Area Technical School and Upward Bound-the University of Florida.
Danford received his B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Florida A & M University in 1967 and 1970 respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in 1980 from the University of Florida. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and as an officer in the Florida National Guard.
Danford is a founding board member of the Florida Coastal School of Law. He served on the Florida Library Literacy Council, the Governor’s Blueprint Commission for Juvenile Justice, the Veterans Administration’s Advisory Committee and other national boards like the President’s Summit on America’s Future in Philadelphia.
Danford helped plan, construct and retire the debt on the mortgage of the League’s Headquarters in the Historic LaVilla area of Jacksonville.
Danford’s recognitions range from awards from the National Urban League to the Ultimate CEO Award by the Jacksonville Business Journal, the Veterans Braintrust Award, and the Mayor’s Distinguished Service Award.
