Center for Economic Empowerment

The Center seeks resources to develop and implement initiatives that empower individuals, entrepreneurs, and disadvantaged business entities to become successful. The Center provides community wealth building and job creation strategies in the urban area of Jacksonville where opportunities may be stagnant.  Training, workshops, individual coaching sessions bring together entrepreneurs, financial institutions and other affiliates and partners to ideate and initiate capital investments that improve the community’s quality of life, particularly in asset poor households.

In addition to advocating for small business growth, the Center provides financial literacy, home ownership and financial counseling workshops and supportive economic enterprises to aid individuals in realizing their personal economic goals.

 

The Housing Department provides community wealth building and sustainability strategies in the urban area of Jacksonville where opportunities may be stagnant. Training, workshops, individual coaching sessions are offered to ideate and initiate financial education and wealth building strategies that improve the community’s quality of life, particularly in asset poor households.

The League provides financial literacy, home ownership and financial counseling workshops and supportive economic enterprises to aid individuals in realizing their personal economic goals. Minority low to moderate income families continue to fall behind in building asset security for their families.

For 30 years, the Jacksonville Urban League has been a HUD-approved housing counseling agency assisting in the following areas:

  • Homeownership Counseling and Foreclosure Prevention

  • First Time Homebuyer Workshop

  • Foreclosure Prevention & Loan Modification

The Jacksonville Urban League partners with the National Urban League to fund the Entrepreneurship Center with services to provide assistance to entrepreneurs, new start-ups, and existing businesses to create successful and sustainable minority businesses. Resources included:

  • One on One Coaching

  • Business Strategy

  • Source Expert Engagement

  • Marketing/Branding

  • Access to Capital

  • Networking / Workshops

 

The Jacksonville Urban League partners with the Department of Economic Opportunity to provide services geared toward assisting entrepreneurs in developing sustainable businesses focusing on the following areas:

  • Education Sessions

  • Individual and Group Training

  • Outreach Events

  • Business and Strategy Planning

  • Service Evaluation

Wells Fargo Historic Springfield Community Learning Center, Jacksonville

 

The Wells Fargo Historic Springfield Community Learning Center is located at 1601 N. Main Street in Jacksonville’s historic Springfield community. The Center opened in May 2012 and adjoins a Wells Fargo retail banking store and state-of-the art training center for team members. The unique center serves as the hub for a diverse array of organizations including employers, schools, and nonprofits that use the facility to promote small business development, financial literacy, home ownership, and job skills training in the community. The Jacksonville Urban League Economic and Community Development Foundation, Inc. manages the Center’s operations.
